Arrhythmia Management Clinic

Electrophysiology (EPS) is the study of the electrical conduction patterns of the heart. The cardiac muscle is unique because of its intrinsic electrical pathways. These pathways cause the cardiac chambers of the heart to contract or squeeze, promoting blood flow. The flow or pumping of blood from the heart to the body is dependent on this stimulus, which initiates contraction Thus, if an abnormal circuit (electrical pathway) exists, the efficiency of the heart may be compromised. Many of us at some time experience a skipping or extra heartbeat that can be perfectly normal. But when the feelings (symptoms) last for a long time or interrupt everyday life resulting in dizziness, shortness of breath or feeling of anxiety, an appointment at our arrhythmia clinic may be an option.
